How Do I Choose The Right Type Of Lights For My Display?

Our incredible selection of unique lighting will help you create festive and bright holiday settings both indoors and outdoors. Choosing what lights to buy will depend on the display and your personal preference. In this guide, we put together some important tips to help you choose.

WHERE TO START

The first step towards choosing holiday lighting is to determine where you want to add light. Christmas lights can be hung just about anywhere. Use your imagination!

INDOOR LIGHTS:

On your Christmas tree, around windows, mantles, mirrors, wreaths, garlands, doorways and more.

OUTDOOR LIGHTS

On your house, shrubs, railing, fences, patio, columns, garage, lamp posts, decorative planters and walkway paths.

HOW MANY LIGHTS DO I NEED?

Once you determine where to hang your Christmas lights, it is time to think about how many you’ll need. Measure the space you want to light up and use those measurements to guide you in your selection of lights.

LIGHTING TIPS

Christmas Trees: Approximately 100 - 200 lights per foot of tree depending on the width.

Eaves of your Home: Choose string lights of 100 or more lights.

Hardware: Gutter clips, suction cups for windows and icicle clips all ensure your lights will stay in place for the season.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLOR

If you are not sure which color to choose, here are a few things to consider:

WHITE / CLEAR

White or clear lights create a more timeless, classic look reminiscent of a peaceful, majestic night.

MULTI-COLORED

Multi-colored lights are festive and fun. They look best with colorful decorations.

TWINKLE

Twinkle lights make everything sparkle and shimmer.

CONSERVE ENERGY

• LED light sets are the best option for conserving energy.

• Use an automatic timer to turn your lighting displays on and off.

• Use extension cords in hidden areas to lengthen strands.

USING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SAFELY

Always follow the manufacturer’s directions for how many strands you can safely connect. Make sure they do not draw more power than the outlet can handle.
